PASADENA... part 3
(griffin's 2011 BotCon report)

Art Display

The art display seemed rather small this year.  Maybe the prizes of 'show dollars' (a voucher only valid in the dealer room) is only an incentive for attendees to enter.
There were barely enough Diorama entries to fill the winning 3 spots, and that included one that wasn't even a diorama (it should have been entered in the custom figure category).

I've tried to keep the prize ribbons in shot, to show which ones came first (blue), second (red), third (white), with the rest being 'participant' (green).  A special kids award was purple.

Sometime throughout the weekend, someone had turned over most of the entry cards, from the side that details the name and reason for the entry, to the side with all their address and phone number details... which wasn't very good in terms of privacy (especially for any that were kids' entries).

Custom Figures first.

The photo of the Carly statue was from the BotCon website (mine didn't show up clear enough).

On the right is Outback, done by an American.

Stunticons.

Not sure what was 'custom' about those two figures above... maybe a youngen entered them.

People keep trying to make a toy version of the once proposed BotCon toy of Defensor (using the RiD Optimus mould).

This one musta been a close fourth to the winning three... and I would have liked this sort of thing as this year's BotCon Animated poster, instead of a sheet of techspecs that don't look like a poster.

.

I think 'tattoo' when looking at that one.

Diorama entries

.
Not sure how that first one counts as a Diorama... or how it beat an actual diorama (the last photo in this set).

.

That's not a Diorama either... but I think people know they have a better chance of winning in that category due to a smaller number of entries.
.

That one I didn't get a photo of, because the owner must have removed it before the end of Saturday. (I didn't even know it existed until I saw the pics on the BotCon website).
The writing is too small to see, but it is a 3-scene diorama, starting off with a 'jock' Optimus tripping over a Legends Fallen (a type of high school setting of bullies harassing the nerds). Then it has The Fallen beefing himself up in the gym, leading to him being tough enough to wedgie the 'bullies'.
(this photo was from the BotCon website)
