PASADENA... part 3
(griffin's 2011 BotCon report)
IDW people - Chris Ryall (I think), Andy Schmidt, Mike Costa, Livio Ramondelli, Flint Dille, Chris Metzen.
This panel was mostly on the next six months of Transformers comics,
which focusses on their 'Chaos' arc.
From July to December IDW will be releasing 2 comic issues per month... from 21 to 31 and then jumping to 125 - but more on that later.
Some upcoming comic covers (not very clear, as I was sitting some distance
from the front in this panel)
Some interior artwork.
The schedule for the next six months (I've written up what it says,
below the photo).
#21 - Jul - Prelude to Chaos
#22 - Jul - Chaos Theory part 1
#23 - Aug - Chaos Theory part 2
#24 - Aug - Chaos part 1
#25 - Sep - The Last Story on Earth part 1
#26 - Sep - Chaos part 2
#27 - Oct - The Last Story on Earth part 2
#28 - Oct - Chaos part 2
#29 - Nov - The Last Story on Earth part 3
#30 - Nov - Chaos part 4
#31 - Dec - Chaos Epilogue
#125 - Dec - The Death of Optimus Prime
It appears that IDW could be renumbering their Transformers ongoing series to indicate how many Transformers comic issues they have now released in their main continuity. When they first got the license, they said that they wanted to avoid an ongoing numbering system to encourage people to get on board every time they had an Issue 1 (every 4-6 months), but I guess now that they have now been producing over 100 issues, they probably want the comic community to realise that Transformers has and will be around for the longhaul, and should be taken seriously.
During this six month period, refered to as the 'Battle for Cybertron',
with two alternating stories:
- The Last Story on Earth, set on Earth and centering around Prowl and Spike.
- Chaos, set on Cybertron.
Concluding with issue #125 that doesn't even attempt to hide its plot...
or is it just a red herring???
Then in January, IDW will be releasing a comic story called 'Autocracy',
that will not be printed. It will be exclusively for online distribution,
as part of their existing IDW comic apps.
The setting is said to be focussing on Optimus Millions of years ago, after the origin of Megatron story and about the time of the fall of the Autobots (the start of the War era).
It was mentioned that Andy was officially finished with Transformers now.
Transformers #81 (the continuation of the Gen1 comics) is still something they are talking about, but with only 2,500 signatures on the petition and a target of 10 thousand, it sounds like it might not happen.
The character of Jimmy - where is he? Apparently he was written into a story a year ago called 'Legacy of Rust' with Punch/Counterpunch, but has still not been published yet. They say it will come out, eventually... but with a big release schedule in the next six months, it won't be for a while.
Drift will be in Chaos story.
No Animated-universe comics.
They are aiming to improve on continuity, and they couldn't help but have some subtle knocking of the AHM comics (which doesn't sound very supportive of their team).
AHM Hardcover (that comes out next month) is not Volume 5 of their IDW Hardcover series. This is just it's own separate release, and their 5th Volume will still cover whatever issues came out in their designated story order (which will also include AHM issues).
No sequel for Last Stand of the Wreckers.
They will be continuing to release their online comics a month after
their printed issues, to remain loyal to their printed comic roots and
fans. Some comic companies release them at the same time.
And IDW will continue releasing the online comics for different formats, as opposed to a universal format like Marvel or DC. (whatever all that means...)
