BOTCON SAN DIEGO
(griffin's 2013 BotCon adventure)
1-2 - PANEL - Costuming
This is one I don't usually sit in, but did poke my head in a couple times, as I had heaps of time left in the closing hours of the convention with nothing much to do.
This panel gives instructions and tips for doing costumes, and is an
opportunity for people to show off their costumes in one place. Also,
the best costume was to be chosen, for the cover of the next issue of the
I liked the Soundwave and Cliffjumper... with special mention to the 4 or 5 people that had LEDs on their masks to look like robot optics.
Miko & Miko - and a Beast Wars Megatron.
On the Friday, the guy Miko was the only "full body" costume at the
convention, so I was thinking that this year was going to be rather disappointing
with cosplay. I was impressed at how creative and brave it was of
him, seeing as he wore it on all three days of the convention... and in
a way, he was able to better resembled (the pre-pubescent) Miko than an
adult female would. He just needed the pink hair.
So then on the Sunday I see a girl walk into the dealer room dressed as Miko, and I knew I had to get a photo of the two together... which took several attempts over the course of 5-6 hours. (it was one of the reasons I kept coming back to the Costuming panel, hoping to get the pair in the same photo)
She didn't seem too happy at this point, perhaps kinda like seeing someone else at the Prom wearing the same dress... and it isn't being worn by a girl.
COSTUMES - around the convention.
The back side of Cliffjumper to show how it was entirely shiny - a Cyclonus
from IDW comics, complete with glowing red eyes.
One of two TFPrime Soundwaves this year.
The other Soundwave, flanked by actual twins dressed up as Cobra twins Xamot and Tomax.
Movie Bots with TFPrime Breakdown. All very nicely constructed,
The back of Breakdown was given just as much attention to detail as the front. And the two Mikos.. see, she was happy when she arrived, thinking she was the only one at the Ball.
Dr Arkeville arm and skull-cap from Gen1.
A complete Drift, missing his ceremonial sword.
