BOTCON - SORTA NEAR CHICAGO
(griffin's 2015 BotCon adventure)
As noted elsewhere already, the location of this Dinner/Reception was not easy to find, and was not announced until the day before. I was able to find it quite easily because I explored the entire premises beforehand like I do each year before the convention starts.
There were certainly a lot less than 110 people in there (the number
of Golden Tickets on offer this year, which didn't sell out, and probably
some people who didn't go to this anyway)... and yet, they still failed
to provide enough seating for everyone. I know it is a casual event
that is meant to allow for people to mingle with the Featured Guests, but
the mingling only happens after the eating has been done (including the
Guests, who don't really want to be meeting and greeting people between
bites of food)... and I people prefer to sit when they eat, not stand.
2013 was the only year they provided enough seating for everyone, but the other three years was either limited seating or none at all.
When we got there a few minutes after 7.30pm everyone was already inside,
and the food was out in the middle of the room (plus a desert table at
the far end, and a bar at this end). I counted about 60 people in
there who weren't Guests, Hasbro people or FunPub people.
The featured guests at this year's Golden Ticket dinner - Derrick Wyatt
(on the left with the hat), Susan Blu (lady on the left of the table) and
John Moschitta (behind the table).
After about 20-30 minutes of people eating, the two Voice Actor guests wandered around the room and mingled... taking photos, and even talking to someone on a phone who was a fan who couldn't make it to the convention.
The main table of food.
And the desert table.
Dispensor was hungry and tried a bit of everything... including some
VERY HOT chicken wings/drumettes.
I don't know if it was planned, or if the kitchen was behind schedule to not have all the food out at the start, but an hour after all the food had been eaten (except the really HOT chicken wings), more savoury food and deserts were brought out. Quite a few people had already left and most of those left had had enough already.
Mini-pizzas and chicken strips... why weren't these out with the first
lot, as they were nice.
When people wanted to leave, they could pick up this year's autograph
souvenir... with autographs of Sue, John and Frank Welker.
Also offered was a cardboard frame that had cut-outs for this autograph banner and for three photos with each of the Guests (you already get the professional photo with Frank Welker, so it was up to you to get photos with the other two to fill the remaining two spots).
I had no plans to get photos with the other two, and if I did it would have to be of similar quality to the Frank Welker photo or else it would look odd... so I only took the Autograph banner.
I like it's simplicity. I like the previous years ones as well, but this one would look nice framed on its own.
I left a little after 8.30pm, as I was full, and there's only so much "stalking" you can do of people (the Guests) talking to others before you get bored.
That was the last Transformers activity for the day.
